RTD will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for "Largest Line Dance". On August 7th at the festival all the attendees will perform "The Cupid Shuffle". The World's record is 17,200 set last year in China. If you don't know how to do The Cupid Shuffle, don't worry we will have dance instruction on Thursday and Friday. Come on out to the festival and be part of the world record!

RTD will be heading down to Mission, TX on March 29 to build a home for a family who lives in a school bus. The family owns the land their “bus” is on but they have to “move that bus” and volunteers from RTD will be building them their own home. Extreme Makeover look out, RTD is headed to Mission! We will also host a “block party” on Easter Eve for the neighborhood around the home we are building. If you would like to contribute to the cost of construction or the Block Party you can call the RTD office at 432-697-4548. The cost of the project is $15,000. Your contribution is tax-deductible. RTD will also be delivering the shoes we collected at last year’s festival to orphans in Mission and across the border at an orphanage in Camargo, Mexico. The top 20 entrants who receive the most votes will have the option to compete live at Rock The Desert Festival. The Live competition will be held on Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7, 2010 (10 each day). Each entrant in the Live Competition will perform 1 (one) song. The competition will be judged by Word Records. The winner from August 6 and the winner from August 7 will compete in the finals on Saturday August 7, 2010 on the main stage at the festival. Each finalist will perform two songs. The ultimate winner will be determined by 50% Word Records Judge(s) and 50% by audience texting their vote.

The ultimate winner will compete in Nashville for a development deal with Word Records. The Nashville competition will be held in September.

2009 was an exciting year for RTD! The 10th Anniversary Festival was held August 7 and 8, and over 14,000 people from across Texas, 13 states and Mexico attended each day. Over the past five years RTD has seen a growth in attendance of 15% each year. The growth is due to the Lord’s blessing on the ministry and your contributions that allow the festival to occur each year. In 2009, attendees heard great music; one of the many highlights was Lecrae. He did an amazing job of sharing the message of Christ. Our partnership with Buckner International was very successful. Through their “Shoes for Orphan Souls” ministry RTD collected over 7,950 pairs of new shoes and received additional contributions to purchase more shoes. Due to the political unrest in Honduras, our mission trip to San Pedro Sula was postponed until after the first of the year. We’re really excited about delivering the shoes to the kids in Honduras!

RTD will host "Metal Night" on Thursday, August 5, 2010. This will be a HUGE addition to the annual festival weekend! The artists confirmed so far include Demon Hunter and The Devil Wears Prada! Follow Rock The Desert on Twitter and Facebook!!

The 2008 facts are in!
-We are excited to announce that there were 150 life commitments recorded!!! The huge cross set up outside the prayer tent was filled with prayer requests and commitments.
-Rock The Desert was attended by approximately 13,000 people this year!
-There were approximately 1,000 campers braving the West Texas elements at Rock The Desert!
-Volunteers totaled around 400, which includes our awesome festival committee and individuals who signed up online and those who just showed up to help!
-The teen tent was a huge success and was packed during the weekend. The tent included various band performances as well as foosball, air hockey, food and drinks. There was space to just hang out as well.
Thanks to all who helped make this year possible and we hope all who attended had a blast. RTD continues to seek God's direction and we look forward to our 10th anniversary in 2009!! Keep checking the website for updates.
